Endocrine surgery is now recognized as a distinct discipline of general
surgery. Accordingly, the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons had
its initial Endocrine Surgery Fellowship Match in 2007, and this manual
was primarily written by fellows of the inaugural class. All were mentored
by senior faculty at their respective academic facilities who are experienced
endocrine surgeons, and each participating program from the class of
2007–2008 was represented. Every effort was made to ensure that institutions
that had an expertise in a particular field authored that chapter.
